He also passed a course of Pharmaceutico (B.Pharm). He was attached to many medical stores in Panaji & Margao as an advisory person.
Bhaskar Pandurang Borkar, Venktubab's grandfather acquired knowledge to cure ailments using herbs from the ayurvedic tradition. This medicine genes came from his grandfather.
Venktubab was the youngest son of Mablu & Bhagirati (from Dalvi family of Adfade). He lost his father when he was 3 and his mother (studied upto 2nd std) brought up the 12 members of the joint family managing a small grocery stores started by Mablu. Early education was under his mother in marathi 3rd std. His mother pawned her jewelery so her son could study the medical course.
Portuguese teacher Signior Aventino Pereira laid the foundation of writing and speaking upto 4th std. He excel in the exam to study upto 8th std in Margao and appear for Leecevo entrance test. Further he passed the entrance exam and studied Leecevo course for 4 years in Panaji in 1905.
The stay at Dhempe family house in Panaji supported him during the 5 year medical course. As there was no money for purchasing books he spend all his time in the college library to make notes. He passed his medical course with flying colors even with bias of two local Goan doctors. His professor and Dean looking at his talent wanted him to go to portugal for further studies, but due to financial constraints his dream to go abroad was lost.
The entire Hindu community rejoiced the first doctor and was honored in all major cities of Goa by the prominent families. The event was published in all Marathi & Portuguese news papers of the time.
He was offered the post of "Chef de delegado de Sauuda" (Chief Health Officer for entire Goa), but he politely declined the post and decided to practice medicine in interior parts of Goa for the poor.
With blessings from his 92 year grandmother, mother and teacher Pereira he started his medical practice. Soon their financial situation was better and Venktubab cleared all debts and got his mothers gold pawned with this money lender.
